Prostate Cancer Symptoms - How To Recognise It?

Prostate Cancer Symptoms: One of the major problems in diagnosing prostrate cancer is at that in its earliest stages the cancer is almost impossible to detect, and the cancer can lie dormant within the prostrate capsule for months, if not years before they begin to spread.

It the cells succeed in spreading out within the prostrate, then the situation for the prostate cancer sufferer becomes increasingly hazardous and could even be fatal. Hence the reason all males must know how to recognise prostate cancer symptoms to allow for early detection.

Known as benign prostate hypertrophy, (BPH) enlargement of the prostate is at best a minor discomfort.

If left unattended this minor irritation can lead to cancer of the prostrate.

The first prostate cancer symptoms that a man feels is a burning sensation in their penis whilst urinating. Men usually feel very sensitive about this most sensitive zone of their bodies. They often tend to ignore any problem in the hope that it will sort itself out in time. However the sad truth is that by ignoring the problem, they are in truth placing their lives in danger.

Other prostrate cancer symptoms or problems can be:
  • The sensation of having to expel urine from the bladder
  • The constant feeling that the bladder is not fully empty after urination.
  • An Increased need to urinate, especially during the night
  • The urinary stream does not flow regularly, it starts and stops

The first signs of any of these prostate cancer symptoms should send a man straight of to their urologist for further tests.

The first simple test that the urologist will carry out is to insert a (gloved) finger inside the patient’s rectum to test if the prostrate gland has become swollen or distended.

If the urologist feels that something is not in order with the prostrate gland, they will refer the patient for further tests, which could lead as far as a biopsy.

If the cells removed from the tissues around the prostate prove to be benign, then a course of prostate cancer treatment will be set upon to reduce the prostrate gland swelling as much as can be done, dependant on the patient’s age and physical condition.

It is possible to live with BPH without surgery if it is held in check as much as possible. If untreated BPH can cause the urinary tract to become completely blocked, and cause a series of infections to the kidneys as well as the bladder.

If biopsy results show that cells removed from the prostrate are malignant, then the diagnosis for the unfortunate patient is cancer of the prostrate gland, with all that it entails. This is why early referral to a doctor when experiencing discomfort in urinating is vital and can even be life saving.
